"And it will be righteousness for us, if we are careful to do all this commandment before the LORD our God, as he has commanded us." (Deut. 6)
...with these words, penned by a saint with a revelation of Christ and the New Covenant...
What can wash away my sin?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
What can make me whole again?
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Oh! precious is the flow
That makes me white as snow;
No other fount I know,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
For my pardon, this I see,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
For my cleansing this my plea,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Nothing can for sin atone,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
Naught of good that I have done,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
This is all my hope and peace,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus;
This is all my righteousness,
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Now by this I’ll overcome
Nothing but the blood of Jesus,
Now by this I’ll reach my home
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.
Glory! Glory! This I sing
Nothing but the blood of Jesus,
All my praise for this I bring
Nothing but the blood of Jesus.

Wonderful! I've noticed, too, that OT people such as David also wrote similar things under the law ("I will be careful to keep Your precepts," etc), and unfortunately Christians go around quoting these words as if they're part of our life in Christ. But it truly is naught of good that I have done! It's all Him!
Joel B...to think, Tim and I almost had the chance to meet you in person!! (You were in Atlanta, right? With Jamie?)
You are right. David - all he HAD was the law. Christ had not yet come. Of *course* he loved God's law! But if he had the New Covenant, as we do? He'd embrace the whole thing in a SECOND.
Great point, and one that few really understand.
Please come by and see us again!
Hi, yes, I was there with Jamie and the others! Were you there, or do you mean we would've met in person if you had been there?
I see you're in Knoxville. We have some friends who moved there from here couple of years ago. They've found a church home but I'm not sure where/who.
We almost went to Atlanta that weekend. But Tim ended up having to tend to MasterBuilder's stuff...plus we have our daughter's wedding this Friday - squeezing in the trip felt like "too much".
But we still cherish the idea of getting to meet everyone eventually!
There are several really good churches here - glad your friends found one. If you are ever in Knoxville, let us know! :-)
