In Which Sheila Only Has One Thing To Say...

Come join me at the table

Righteousness is not something that grows in us. We grow into the free gift of righteousness, by grace through faith. I am all the "holy" I am supposed to be, at this very moment, because I am in Christ Jesus, who is made unto me...well, just everything I need. Good works are what I do for the sake of my neighbor, not to merit favor with God. God is pleased with Christ Alone.

Yeah. I think that is the one thing I wanted to say.

I think way back in genesis 3 that was the thing. Somehow just being normal, living by God's life didn't look zowie enough. So the serpent moved in with the lie that we had to do something to be better, to be more godlike and generally help God along a bit. But if we'd only carried on right there...believing in His life being quite sufficient to develop how God wanted it to....we'd not have what Watchman Nee calls "overdeveloped souls ". I don't like that term because it sounds too positive. It's only overdeveloped in the sense that cancer cells are overdeveloped versions of natural cells, and elephantitis is an overdeveloped out of control version of natural growth. And I can live without those two...just as much as "overdeveloped righteousness!!!" Nice post-ette.
